Bute Sound's Debut Acoustic Release is a great insight into our philosophy:

The foundation of each of the 4 very different Tracks is One whole simultaneous take of live performance on Acoustic Guitar & Voice captured here at Bute Sound Cardiff - our new comfortable musical space for creating recorded music, with learning along the way too.

Capturing Guitar in stereo with mid-side miking and vocal with the warm analog vibe of a Ribbon mic - all in one go.

There was no click-track, 'Grid', tempo-mapping or modern assistance hampering musical expression, pieces were recorded in a 'TO-TAPE' approach that was how things were commonly done prior to the digital revolution - when performances had to be good or you tried again!

This approach is far trickier for both performer and engineer, but the advantages are that you greatly increase your chances of capturing something with a little 'spark' that can otherwise be sucked out of recordings done in a modern multitrack piece by piece approach.

Arrangement additions such as vocal harmonies, keyboards, percussion, electric guitar, bass etc. were carefully hung on the branches of the core performances, enhancing the tracks such that listeners can be taken on a short journey and be deposited safely back a few minutes later..

----Backround----
Inspired by a powercut when working away one night - surrounded by the sound of silence and in the pitch black.. It was clear that even with a wealth of musical experience I was little entertainment without Technology!
I set about changing that - steadily improving my guitar playing and developing the ability to play and sing together that i found so hard previouslyso that writing and perform my own songs was now another skillset in the armoury.
For me to have written, performed, recorded, arranged, produced and mastered this EP, recorded in a manner that was far outside my comfort zone & to do so in a great new studio space with the help of top grade equipment & tools, is a big source of satisfaction - and as always - a great learning experience..

It also serves to show you what Bute Sound can do for you - as you listen - imagine yourself as the performer, performing your material..

This is a glitchy electronica compilation that featured Two of my own 2000-era Electronica pieces: Track 3- OctaJim - dreamy delayed infused chillfest - and the electroacoustic sonic classic that almost burnt down RWCMD when they first heard it - Track 16 : Trumpet Involuntary ... little secret: I tend to skip the others - HAh :)

<<< If you have a moment you can travel far back in time & hear what i was doing with my state of the art Amiga 500 & 1200 in the 90's - Teen-years !!

See how I was exploring all about tune-making in the very limited confines of 8 bit gritty sample-tracker glory.. none of it shared on the (non-existent) internet for likes or shaming either!

Maximum 4 sounds at once and later 8.. all sand blasted... These here were lovingly digitised from cassette tapes. .

I would often record live-output turning tracks on/off 'Dub' style with computer keys as it recorded onto Tape for a quick arrangement.. ahh memories - even the duff ones :D

So in a few scrolls of the screen we've gone from a new bona-fide acoustic performance singer songwriter EP, to various electro-acoustic explorations - a whistle-stop tour of various prior projects - and then back to where it all began!

I've been exploring the musical galaxy for most of my life - picking up skills at every stop - constructing music since the age of 8 on piano, then an electronic keyboard, Cornet/Trumpet , on computers/software electronic music, on guitars, with voice, drums and perhaps stuff i've forgotten.

conservertoire trained - university of life trained - musical to the core & eager to help.

a lifetime being wholly responsible for making music from start to finish. performing it. gaining great joy listening to it.

an education infused with music and music technology.

a musical history beginning on a recorder, voice, piano, a trumpet, an AMIGA 500 making 8 bit electronic tracker tunes (1991-2001) acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass and more recently drums.

I've had my own electronica releases, been wholly responsible for recording and producing EPs and Albums for client artists, from folk to pop/rock to soul to hiphop. recorded voice overs for radio advertising, composed jingles / ad music for local radio.

I perform live occasionally my acoustic songs around Cardiff.

also - Professional Conservertoire Training: I hold a Post Graduate (Advanced) Diploma in Music: Specialising in Music Technology from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, 2001.

16 years working professionally & semi professonally in music production, constantly building up skills both as a musician and mixer.

User of cockos REAPER as my main DAW since 2008 gaining expert knowledge regarding it's entire workings and myriad features.

Also in depth knowledge of propellorhead REASON, RENOISE Tracker, Ableton live, audiomulch and many other musical tools, as well as a vast list of VSTi's and FX that is not important right now, but if you ask I can tell!
