The 'Bute' name is synonymous with the History of Cardiff & South Wales - Thanks to the Marquesses of Bute -> The Stuart family: who made it big in South Wales as it flourished, and consequently their name crops up all around the area and adorns many of Cardiff's landmarks and buildings.

Bute Park is one beautiful example in the heart of Cardiff, which is also home to -

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama - the Conservertoire from where I gained my Post-Graduate Diploma in 2001. ( it too has its own 'Bute Theatre' ;) )

Bute Street / dock / building were at the industrial & business centre during the docks boom when Cardiff was one of the busiest and richest trading ports in the world:

Trivia! - members of my family were successful ship-owners, merchants, and insurers who lived & worked in purpose-built offices on Bute Street ( Brailli & co ) - where the Eli Jenkins Pub is now located - from the late 1800's up until the shipping decline after ww1 - they were also heavily involved in fitting out the famous Terra Nova that sailed from Cardiff with Scott of the Antarctic aboard.

You'd better google that unfortunate adventure if you don't know that one!

Cardiff Castle was transformed into the Gothic fairytale set of buildings we see today by the then owners - the marquesses of Bute - with the help of Architect William Burges.

As a Cardiffian with a connection to it's past, I really appreciate the city's own rich history - which is often diminished in its new role of a modern Capital presenting Wales to the world..

Hence Bute Sound - it has always been here, you just didn't know it! ------ more pics below -------
